The objective of this project is to create a zine about a topic of my choosing. My zine focuses on the friendly and welcoming skate community in Southern California. Rather than going with the typical almost punk look we associate with skateboarding, I took inspiration from early skate photography and magazines to capture the essence of the culture with grainy black and white photography and hand-written elements. The color palette is inspired by the aged black and white photography of Tod Swank. It’s not pure black or pure white. I took inspiration from the website of Grant Brittain, a big figure in the history of skateboarding, and used a typewriter font with some hand-rendered imperfections.
